Merton Special Teaching Association

NQT+ Primary Programme

The NQT+ Primary Programme is closely aligned with the DfE Early Careers Framework and targets the teacher who started their teaching career in the last two or three and are not benefitting from the ECT training programme.

The purpose of the programme is to provide teachers with the skills to develop and improve their potential in the classroom. It is a very practical programme involving observations, keeping a school based journal and working with a school based mentor.

We focus on identifying factors that create good/outstanding teaching and learning. The sessions are based on:

  • How children learn best

  • Managing behaviour
  • Questioning
  • Adaptive teaching

  • Assessment and evaluation

  • Early leadership

The sessions also include effective working with teaching assistants, creating purposeful and attractive working environments, working  with pupils with SEN and pupils who have English as an additional language.
